You Never Know

“Once, my father took me to show a cinema in Delhi. He did not have enough money. We sat near Kamani auditorium and he told me that it is wonderful to see the vehicles passing.”

These are the words of Shahrukh Khan in a recent interview. A kid, whose father didn’t have enough money to show his son a movie, grew up to be the biggest star of the Indian film industry. Love him, or hate him, you just can’t ignore him. I am not one among his fans, I won’t faint if I ever saw him live, unlike millions of other girls in India. But, being the romantic me, I do love few of his movies. But, when I read these words today, it touched me. Back then, no one knew him. From a nobody, he went up to be the King of Bollywood.

Steve Jobs dropped college and took calligraphy lessons instead of taking his normal classes. Years later when he was designing the first Macintosh computer, he applied those calligraphy lessons there. If he hadn’t dropped his courses, no personal computer would have ever had multiple typefaces or proportionately spaced fonts. He had this theory to connect the dots, which means that, something that  we’ve done in our past would surely have an impact on our future, something we would never know if we look forward. We’ve to look backward to connect those dots, those decisions we took which lead us to our present. In his own words, “So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Hard work, luck and your destiny can take you places you never imagined to be, in your biggest dreams. You never know, a small mistake, an insignificant decision could one day prove to be a blessing.

Lord Krishna said, “Karam karo phal ki chinta mat karo,” meaning “Perform your duty with generosity and forget what will be the outcome of that particular duty”. And that’s how one must lead his way.

Just breathe. Just walk. Just live.

And, never lose hope, for you never know what life has in store for you. 🙂

You could be the next superstar, scientist, entrepreneur, or the first ‘YOU’.
