Weekly Photo Challenge: Rise

I am a night owl by all means but for this challenge I wanted to post pictures of a sunrise and this my friends is the only sunrise picture I could find in my gallery (which is otherwise filled with pictures of numerous sunsets)

Let’s just say, sunrise symbolizes optimism and that is what I need desperately in my not so happening and stagnant life… the hope of a sunrise, someday, somehow!

Weekly Photo Challenge: I’d Rather Be

I’d Rather Be…

2018-18-3--00-42-59

Waking up as the first rays of sun pour into my bedroom,

2018-18-3--00-29-16

and watch this little one go moo moo first thing in the morning.

2018-18-3--00-38-01

Or make my knees green by rolling in these grass fields

2018-18-3--00-45-07.jpg

and sometimes build hay stakes on the hill slopes.

2018-18-3--00-35-56

Spend the noon counting unripe mangoes on the tree I planted in my childhood,

2018-18-3--01-18-27

and plucking strawberries from our garden,

2018-18-3--01-24-45.jpg

Or may be look around for wild berries in the jungle.

2018-18-3--00-39-39

I would watch the sparrows perched on our wooden terrace,

2018-18-3--00-41-25

and build a scarecrow to fly them away from the crop.

2018-18-3--00-55-49.jpg

I would spend the evening listening to the sound the river makes as it flows down the valley,

2018-18-3--00-32-53

and wait for another day in this place I once called Home.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Glow

It has been a while since I participated in Weekly Photo Challenge. Mostly because I like clicking pictures of nature mainly mountains, flowers, insects but it’s hard to spot such things in Delhi. Now that I am at home. I do post photographs sometimes in Instagram. I don’t claim to be a photographer, and I don’t even have a legitimate camera but photography is something I enjoy. I was going through this week’s challenge and thought what could be better than posting Diwali pictures for ‘glow’ theme but then it turned out to be a different kind of ‘glow’. Guys at WPC wanted us to post pictures taken at the Golden hour which is is the time of the day before sunset or after sunrise, when the light is soft and glowing.

Luckily I came across these beautiful creatures a few minutes back. I hope they do justice to the theme.

For Weekly Photo Challenge.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Nostalgia

There’s a exhaust fan in our kitchen which surprisingly seems to be an attractive nesting place to mynas. Every year a couple of myna build a nest in my mother’s kitchen, breed and feed their young ones and fill the place with their droppings and feathers. My mother naturally is annoyed to clean the place everyday, with the constant chirping and mostly with the inability to use that exhaust fan. One day when I was home during my college holidays she told me how she misses those birds, their chirps and seeing those young ones trying to fly,how it is no more annoying to clean their dirt and how she waits for the birds to come again the next breeding season. The same moment she looked at me and said, “just like these birds all three of you too flew away from me, miles away from home.”

Every time I see these birds, there is a lump in my throat, my mother’s sad face in my mind and a sudden wish to leave everything and go home.

Home Is Where The Kids Are…

To me, nature is the ultimate muse… the birds perched on trees around our house, the flowers growing in our garden or the beautiful sunset as seen from our rooftop. I find nothing as beautiful and mesmerizing as nature.

Inspired by this week’s photo challenge.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

“If tomorrow will be the end of the world,I’ll spend my today by looking at the pictures of my past!” -Mehmet Murat ildan

In the Himalayan foothills, amidst vast forests, lies my maternal village, a place i fall in love with, again and again. I miss it so intensely that I find myself there almost everyday in my dreams.

I dream about this house we have, which is almost two centuries old. The fireplace, the traditional Indian mortar and pestle, the Himalayan view from the terrace, the balcony which is my favorite place in this world- the memories of childhood.

1

I dream about the enormous fields, and fruit orchards, my aunt cutting grass with a sickle, the water canals, and the smell of burning wood mixed with that of green leaves, and mud.

2

3

I dream of the school my mother attended, the one built by my grandfather. I visualize the stories my mother told me of her childhood, the pranks she played, her mischief and adventures.

5

I dream of the pet cat we have, the tiny one who is scared of rats. and the cows we own, the new born calf which would have grown up since the last time I saw her, almost four years back.

4

6

I see those temples in my dreams, the Shiva temple located atop a hill, the one I visited with a little girl, who by some complex relationship was my aunt.

7

8

There are places which become a part of your identity, a part of what you see yourself to be- my mother’s village is such a place for me. I can go places, see big cities and metros but I’ll always be  a village girl in my heart. I long to visit that place, to spend quite evenings sitting at the terrace with a cup of tea, lay back and enjoy the beauty of nature, without worrying about the rest of the world.

I’ve a wish-  to be able to live the last days of my life there, to attain peace as my life comes to an end.

I know buddy, the world outside is so much more interesting than Biochemistry lessons. :(

I know buddy, the world outside is so much more interesting than Biochemistry. 😦

Since the one year that I’ve been home he has been my only companion. Living in a completely new town, I don’t know many people here, well, none my age, and all those times that I’ve been sad, teary eyed, I’ve hugged him like my one true friend. I have told him things even my mother doesn’t know. I’ve even cried keeping him in my lap. And he has always been the same, the silent, mute spectator, looking at me with his thoughtful eyes. We have played together numerous times and slept under one blanket like siblings. He is the only pet we’ve ever had. And I love him for being with me, for being a friend, a true companion.

My entry to the Weekly Photo Challenge.
